Freak of Nature – Anachnid

  • St Jax Montréal 1439 rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest Montréal, QC, H3G 1S6 (map)

Winner of the 2021 Félix of the Year for Indigenous Artist of the Year and winner of the 2019 SOCAN Foundation Indigenous Songwriter of the Year Award, Anachnid is a Montreal-based Oji-Cree multidisciplinary artist.

Description

Her spirit animal, the spider, has eight legs, and she embodies as many complex personalities on stage and in life: venomous spirit, young woman in love, caring grandmother... Her debut album Dreamweaver, released in February 2020, was nominated on the Polaris long list, for alternative-pop album, electronic hip-hop album and artist of the year at the Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards as well as for ADISQ's English-language album of the year. His music is a hybrid and sensual style of electro-pop, trap, indie, soul and hip hop, with delicate and complex sound textures evocative of his ancestral cultures.

Almost two years after the release of her debut album, she released two new singles: Live Alone and Love Alone, which revealed a new side of the artist, an isolated, unfiltered Anachnid, creating an alternative pop anthem, with a touch of grunge, and spewing raw poetry with a touch of black humor. On stage, she delivers an immersive experience with quiet strength and communicates her sensitivity to us, bringing us into her intimate and symbolic universe.
