Description
The court of Versailles was one of the few places that professionally employed women musicians during the Baroque period. The names of Marguerite Louise and Marguerite Antoinette Couperin, as well as Anne-Renée Rebel, can be found in the court papers. However, they rarely signed or published a book, with rare exceptions such as that of Elizabeth Jacquet of the War.
We find the trace of these women by searching a little, and finding here and there a mention of celebrated harpsichordists, such as Miss Certin or Marie-Rose Dubois. This harpsichord recital by Mélisande McNabney enters their world and retraces their history in music.
